We see many great athletes on TV every day, but how about the greats we very rarely hear about. Unless you follow Olympic swimmers, you probably have never heard about Dara Torres. Torres at 45 years old was hoping to make this year Summer Olympics’ her last. She missed out making this year’s Olympic team by 9/10ths of a second. Coming out of retirement she won 5 medals at the 2000 Sydney games and 3 more at Beijing in 2008.
Torres started her career in 1984 at the Los Angeles games and won 12 medals. She becomes the first woman to swim in 5 Olympics and is the oldest female ever at the games.
Thanks Dara, for becoming a special American, one we’ll miss seeing at the Summer Olympics.
