TEMPERED BY MEMORY 9/11 SCULPTURE

I drove by the steel disgrace that plopped into our City today.  This eyesore monstrosity is better suited to be set up at the City landfill instead of being planted in the City proper.  If you get a chance, visit some cities via the internet and look at what beautiful memorials were crafted out of the steel that was given to them, you will be amazed by some and in awe of others.

However, Saratoga Springs can never do anything normal.  We (the City) accepted this heap of destruction and I guess from the arguments from last year this humongous bird perch is classified as beautiful art.  I’ll keep my mask, tights and shield, thank you.

I don’t think that I could ever bring out of town friends to visit this piece of art and tell them what it is with a straight face.  Someone has to bring these fruitcakes that think they have to keep bringing things like this into Saratoga Springs, under control.

First it was the Palacio Del Riggi, then 101 Condominiums now the Twisted Sister, what next, a statue of Scott Johnson holding Shauna Sutton?

  1. The imagery of the statue of Scott and Shauna is an ugly ugly mental picture, even more ugly then the sculpture you were writing about.
Maybe you should use a more family orientated statue, like Scala and Sutton arm in arm with Johnson in front as their child. There is a family resemblance.

  2. I don't understand how people can think this piece of garbage helps in the memories of 9/11. What a waste of our open space.

  3. And they are calling it a sculpture?
A hunk of twisted steel, that no one sculpted is not a sculpture, it is just some junk metal.
This steel will be vandalized and covered with bird poop.
As a kid, those rock ledges were kept weed free and tree free. What a mess now.

  4. Actually it is a sculpture. Two "artists" were paid an unknown sum of money to 'sculpt' the metal. It would have better if it was left alone --

Now we have the entire process in a film:

Looks like early filming took place in Saratoga - How did the filmmakers know about this project before the public did ?

We can only hope the ghosts of Indians will honor the grounds of their sacred spring and let it sink into the village brook.

  5. If it does sink and a new spring erupts, we will name it the "Tempered Spring", or in honor of the Mayor and Shauna, we can call it Spit & Hack.

  6. Did they check with the Indian community before they plopted this monstrosity on their ancient burial site? Or did the mayor push it through channels like the REC Center?
